Great Excursion to SLC with the Puffer Brothers!!!

Last Monday we had great excursion with my two brothers and their wives to SLC by way of the train from Ogden. Clark is the President of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers and arranged a trip to see the roof top gardens on top of the LDS converence center. This above photo is Paul who is pretending to be asleep on the train.
The three sister-in-laws....Carma, Marilyn, and myself.

Here we are on the roof top gardens. I can't believe there are huge gardens on top of the roof with trees, flowers, grasses, and fountains.

There is a large glass window with all different types of people representing who we we teach around the world about the gospel. The photos are sandblasted onto the glass...AMAZING!

This was a really cool backdrop to the large fountain. "And this Gospel shall be preached unto every Nation and Kindred, and Tongue, and People."

It's quite a view up there you can see the captial building and the Deverow Mansion.

Quite peaceful pools....
The temple and the construction of the new city center in the background.
You can even see Angel Moroni from a different view up there.
Carma and Paul listening to the missionary horticulture specialist who has the special elevator key which allowed us to go on the roof. If you don't have him you don't get to go on the roof. There is no other way up there.

Clark and Marilyn listening intently about the roof top garden info.

We ate at the Lion House Pantry.....YUMMY>>>>and then returned to the train for the ride to the Ogden train station to pick up the car and go home.
Everyone was laughing endlessly to Paul and Clark teasing me and telling jokes.
It was a great day with the Puffer Clan....See you all this Sunday to celebrate Paul and Carma's 50th Wedding Anniversay at Cherry Hill.

FINALLY!!! A NEW POST!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to my home. Come and sit awhile at my door. We'll talk, laugh and share under my vivid umbrella. Those colors are ME! I just want to get the crayon box out and find those colors!
I love my old house on the hill. It is filled with memories!!!
Don't you think it is an inviting house?

People always ask me, "What is the name of that color on your front door?"

As some of you know we are putting in curb and gutter on the south side of our property. It's all done except for filling in the edges with grass and putting new sprinklers in....wow what a good husband I have.

One bright red patio....you all know I LOVE red!
As usual every day for the past two weeks the clouds appear in the west and afternoon showers keep everything green.
I have a garden this year. We have potatoes, peas, and pole beans. And we are trying "square foot gardening" this year.

I bought two umbrellas, both the same, one for the front door and one for the table along with matching red seat pads.
This photo was taken from the balcony of the shop. Things are still growing "even" after the freakish hail storm on my birthday, June 2.

And of course, I LOVE MY FLOWERS and I have alot of them.
I don't know why I always plant redishes. I forget to pick them and then when I remember they are too woody to eat.I planted everything and some items I had to replant because of the hail.

These four plants I am most excited about. They are cantalope and they look pretty healthy and strong. YUMMY

Roger read in a magazine that you could plant potatoes in a bag (weed protector cloth wrapped around with dirt inside). AND, the potatoes are actually growing. INTERESTING..

You name it, I probably planted it...even an artichoke...I don't even know if I like them.

Peas, onions, lettuce..
Then there are all of my potted flowers.....gives my heart joy to just sit and view them.

It's not even the heart of summer...these flowers along the wall have not shown all their colors just yet.

Even a row of flowers on our new driveway.....NICE

Hidden baskets in the corner of the yard...what a focal point.

My rose pots are wonderful especially this one. It's called the JUDY GARLAND Rose.

My dear friend Christina made me red plaid curtains for my old patio windows. Roger gruffed, "Why would you want to put curtains on the outside of the house?" What do men know about these things?

Our freshly laid driveway cement. That beats a pile of weeds any day.

These two are some of the guys who put in the curb and gutters. The guy on the right was interesting to watch. I thought all day long that his pants were going to fall off. Notice his underwear showing and all through the day you could see more and more of it.

A Milestone for DUP and me

My family may laugh at these photos, but these Daughter's of the Utah Pioneers are all wonderful ladies of the Smithfield Summit Camp. Today was a very important and tender moment. After numerous years of being the Captain of this group, we finally got our offical DUP marker. The current Captain and her crew pulled it off. (but I like to feel that my group planted the seeds)

The pioneer quilt waits for the unveiling. This dedication happens to be the weekend of the Sesquintennial Health Days in Smithfield.

Gary Flake, (yes, her name is Gary) the Committe chairperson gives the presentation. The mayor spoke. We sang three songs.........then the unveiling of the marker.
It really was a moving experience. We have waited for such a long time, accumulating the money, and going through the paperwork and now it is a done deal. The marker is next to the river and bridge leading to an original pioneer cabin at Forrester Acres west of Smithfield.

Robert Chambers, a previous mayor, gave the dedicationial prayer.

I know my family will laugh at our funny pioneer hats but this was such a long awaited choice experience. When I was captain, Christina Greene, my dear friend was vice-captain for those years.

We were so excited....a dream come true.

We love our pioneer ancestors SO much and we hope that our children, our daughters and daughter-in-laws (later on in their lives) will keep this tradition going by joining DUP and honoring and NEVER forgetting their pioneer ancestors.
